Boston, MA and Indianapolis, IN – June 10, 2019– WePlayed, a community-driven sports video platform for athletes and fans, announced that it has been selected to take part in the 2019 class of the Techstars Sports Accelerator Powered by Indy. This is the first year of a three-year initiative in Indianapolis, which is committed to supporting innovative startups across many sectors, stages and business models aiming to capture opportunities in sports and sports technology.
“For the Techstars Sports Accelerator Powered by Indy, we’re taking the most talented emerging companies in both sports and sports technology, and teaming them up with many of the top sports partners and mentors in the world,” said Jordan Fliegel, Managing Director for the Sports Accelerator. “WePlayed’s innovations in sports video technology impressed our selection committee, and we’re honored to have them joining us in Indianapolis for this influential program.”
The Sports Accelerator’s objectives are to foster early identification of key trends for future technology in sport; engage meaningfully with early-stage sports tech companies; embrace technologies and business models that will impact the sports industry; and enhance a culture of internal innovation and the spirit of entrepreneurship.
“When an organization as influential as Techstars decides to target sports technology and lines up sports partners with entrepreneur and early-stage technology investor Jordan Fliegel in charge, it makes a bold statement about the future of sports and audience engagement,” said Rob Ciampa, Co‑Founder and CEO of WePlayed. “We are honored to be part of the program and working with nine other entrepreneurial companies to capture opportunities in both sports and sports technology.”
